Graham Zusi scored the game winner in the 2nd half as Maryland won their 2nd title in 4 years with a 1-0 win over North Carolina. Zusi scored the winner in both Maryland victories at the 2008 Mens College Cup. North Carolina was denied its 2nd upset on the weekend in the loss. On Friday night North Carolina took out #1 Wake Forest.
It was a very windy day in Dallas and the two ACC teams fought valiantly for the national title. The play at times wasn't pretty, but that is sometimes the case when two teams know each other so well. The victory marked the 3rd time this season taht Maryland had beaten North Carolina. All 3 of which were 1 goal, tight wins.
The winning goal came in the 67th minute when Doug Rodke got down the right and put in a low cross. Tar Heels defender Eddie Ababio blocked Jeremy Hall's first shot, but Graham Zusi blasted the rebound into the left corner from the top of the penalty area.
North Carolina threw everything forward towards the end, but they could not beat the Maryland defense and keeper Zach MacMath.
