Youth National Championships - U19 boys preview

Published 7/24/2007 6:46:47 AM by staff from socceramerica.com

The quartet is one of the strongest in the history of the 72-year history of the McGuire Cup. The Dallas Texans Red are one of the strongest teams in the history of American youth soccer, having won the U-18 national championship and the prestigious Super Group at the Dallas Cup in 2006 and the U-17 national championship in 2005.

The Texans include U.S. U-20 Andre Akpan (Harvard), U.S. Pan-American Games players Stephen McCarthy (Santa Clara) and Omar Gonzalez (Maryland) and Jonathan Villanueva (Virginia), who represented the USA in U-20 World Cup qualifying in January.

The Casa Mia Bays won youth titles in 2002 and 2004. They feature Rodney Wallace, who is headed to Maryland and is one of the top midfield prospects in the country.

The Magic is back to the nationals for the fourth time. Last year, it lost to the Texans on penalty kicks in the final. The Magic has players from several colleges, including Creighton's Chris Schuler, a second-team pick on the Soccer America All-Freshman selections.

The Ruckus is led by UCLA's David Estrada, the 2006 Soccer America Freshman of the Year.
