The Womens Professional Soccer League got off to a succesful start on the weekend when the Los Angeles Sol defeated the Washington Freedom in an exciting 2-0 match. A good crowd of almost 15,000 were on hand for the inaugural match and they were treated to an offensive and open game.
It took only 6 minutes for the home side to jump on top as Allison Falk jumped high to head home a free kick from Japanese star Aya Miyama. It was a resounding start for the Sol and the WPS. The game would present many chances, but all went unfinished until late in the second half when the Sol would put the game away.
Midfielder Camille Abily would notch the 2nd goal in the 87th minute when she chipped Freedom keeper Brianna Scurry. The lead looked safe and the home crowd celecrated. Brazilian star Marta picked up the assist and was a major factor all night giving the Freedom fits all over the field.
