The semifinals are set at the 2010 World Cup. It had been a World Cup dominated by South America as they snatched half of the quarterfinal field. They crashed and burned there as Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay all flamed out. The story now has to be the dominating performances of Germany. Can they keep it up or will Spain be the end of them? Can the cinderella's from Uruguay keep their amazing run going to the final or will impressive Holland send them packing?
Holland - Uruguay
Will Holland build off their impressive second half rally over Brazil and send another South American side home? They are clear favorites here as Wesley Sneijder, Arjen Robin and company are in fine form. Uruguay managed to find a way to win the action packed quarterfinal over Ghana surviving a last minute penalty kick and then winning in penalties. A major factor in the match will be the suspension of Uruguay striker Luis Suarez who was sent off for his game saving handball off the line against Ghana. In the end, Holland should just have too much quality for Uruguay unless the South Americans can get some magic from Diego Forlan.
Germany - Spain
Wow what a matchup and truly worthy of a World Cup semifinal. In form Germany has been trouncing opposition, smashing England 4-1 and then Argentina 4-0. Goals have been coming in bunches, but do not overlook the German defense that was so good limiting Argentina to rarely a sniff of the goal. Miroslav Klose and Podolski have been a deadly duo that will cause the Spain defense fits. Spain, on the other hand, has been up against stingy defenses in getting to the semifinals. They slipped by stingy Paraguay and rugged Portugal both by 1-0 scorelines. Do not let the 1-0 scores fool you as Spain has plenty of offense to go around. Xavi, David Villa, Iniesta are always looking for goals and one day Fernando Torres is going to get his legs back and be a factor as well. No telling how this one turns out, but do not miss it on Wednesday!
