The draw for grouping in the 2010 World Cup will be held Friday. Most experts will say where the teams are drawn group-wise is just as important as the games themselves. Get a soft group and cruise through to the knockout phases. Get a killer group and book an early flight home.
The US got no favors in World Cup 2006 in Germany. Hopefully they will get a nice draw on Friday. Pot 1 contains the 7 top seeded teams for the World Cup along with South Africa. Pot 2 contains CONCACAF and the Asian squads while Pot C has Africa and South America. Pot 4 has the rest of Europe.
Imagine a group with Brazil, USA, Ivory Coast and Portugal? Ouch. Or how about an easier draw of South Africa, USA, Algeria and Slovakia? We'll have to wait until Friday to know.
The Pots -
Pot 1: South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, England, Germany, Italy, Holland, Spain
Pot 2: Australia, Honduras, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, Mexico, New Zealand, USA
Pot 3: Algeria, Cameroon, Chile, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Paraguay, Uruguay
Pot 4: Denmark, France, Greece, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland
The World Cup Draw will be held Friday, December 4, in Cape Town, South Africa, and will air live at noon pm ET on ESPN2.
