Leave it to FIFA to make another goofy decision. After months of rumours of bribes and corruption FIFA ignored the obvious and most capable bids to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Instead of England for 2018 FIFA voted to award the World Cup to Russia. How many North Americans are going to make that trip? Right. Not many. The 2018 World Cup in england would have been massive. Instead it will be a poorly attended event in Russia.
The 2022 decision was even goofier. Australia would have been a fine choice. They did a recent Summer Olympics in grand fashion and the World Cup has never been staged there. The United States bid offered massive stadiums, attendance records and skyhigh profits. Instead, FIFA voted for Qatar.
That's right. Qatar. A country that has never even qualified for a World Cup. A country with a total population smaller than Houston, Texas. A country where the average temperature during a World Cup is 106 degrees. That's average temperature. A ridiculous decision. Qatar only has three soccer stadiums total. they'll have to build nine stadiums.
Oh well. The soccer purist was utterly defeated today with FIFA's decisions. England in 2018 would have been magnificent. Russia, eh. Australia or the United States in 2022 would have been magnificent. Instead we will have heat strokes in Qatar.
