It was a wild weekend in MLS play as a couple of the league laggards rose up with huge performances. FC Dallas slammed 6 past Kansas City and San Jose put 4 past Seattle. Houston Dynamo held off a DC United rally to win 4-3 while Columbus and Chicago claimed 1-0 wins.
The biggest surprise of the weekend came from Pizza Hut Park in Dallas where few expected FC Dallas to rise up. They had just choked a 2-0 lead at Real Salt Lake the previous week and then got the news leading scorer Kenny Cooper was heading to Germany. Then BANG! A six goal outburst which left Kansas City looking more like a high school team than an MLS team. Veteran keeper Kevin Hartman looked like he had no business being on the field as Jeff Cunningham torched him for four goals on the night.
Meanwhile, San Jose was putting on a show of their own on the west coast as they surprised Seattle FC with a four goal blitz. Seattle definitely contributed to their demies with an own goal in the 2nd minute and a red card in the 33rd minute. Shots were 16-4 and the match was never ever in doubt.
Western Conference leading Houston Dynamo jumped out fast leading 3-0 over DC United at the half, but had to hold on late as DC rallied back. A goal from Brad Davis and a pair from Brian Ching staked the halftime lead, but Luciano Emilio notched two of his own in the 2nd half to lead the rally.
Eastern Conference leading Columbus held serve as they took care of Colorado 1-0 Saturday. Chad Marshall scored the winner in the 39th minute and the Crew won without leading scorer Guillermo Barros Schelotto who is nursing a hamstring injury.
