Wild Finish at Old Trafford leaves Manchester United and FC Porto tied

Wild Finish at Old Trafford leaves Manchester United and FC Porto tied

FC Porto came out fast and put EPL leaders Manchester United on their back foot to open the Champions League quarterfinal first leg at Old Trafford in London.  It took only 3 minutes for Porto to force Edwin van der Saar into a quality save as Hulk rifled a shot to the top right of the net.  Soon after a poor clearance from Jonny Evans fell straight to Cristian Rodriguez who cut inside and fired it into the net for the lead.

The FC Porto travelling fans celebrated and Porto continued to get he better of play to the concern of the home side.  In the 15th minute United were handed a gift as Wayne Rooney poached an ill-fated Bruno Alves back pass and scored easily.  Outside of the mistake, FC Porto looked much the better squad during the opening 45 minutes.

The second half produced a much better looking Manchester United squad as they began to push forward and string some passes together.  It would be the managers working their magic with the bench that would set up the dramatic finish.  Man U substitute Carlos Tevez in the 85th minute that would break the 1-1 tie.  Rooney flicked on a throw in and found Tevez who roofed the ball into the net.

The 2-1 lead looked safe with only minutes remaining when the Manchester United defense broke down once again allowing substitute Mariano Nicolas Gonzalez to grab the equalizer.    The match ends 2-2 and now Man U must go to Portugal and win in a very difficult environment.
