It was one of the wildest weekends in recent memory in the English Premier League as balls were flying past goalkeepers left and right. Arsenal blew a 4-0 lead in the final 23 minutes and Manchester United suffered their first league loss in 29 matches to lowly Wolves. It was definitely a weekend to remember.
Firstly, we saw Arsenal run out to a 4-0 halftime lead against visiting Newcastle. I think everyone turned their attention to other games as Arsenal clearly took their foot off the gas. Newcastle's response was swift and stunning to the Emirates crowd. A red card dropped Arsenal to ten men and then a pair of penalty kicks led the stunning rally tha was finished off by a wonderful long range volley from Leon Best to tie the match 4-4.
Meanwhile there were other thrillers as well. Everton was playing out a wild 5-3 victory over Blackpool where Luis Saha notched 4 goals and Wigan were taking care of Blackburn 4-3 behind a pair from James McCarthy. Manchester City rode a Carlos Tevez first half hat trick to a 3-0 win over West Brom.
The last match of the day produced the biggest surprise of a surprising day. Manchester United were expected to cruise to another win as they visited last place Wolves. It was not to be an easy day for the EPL leaders though as Wolves gave them fits right from the start. An early Man U goal from Nani was to be one of the few highlights of the day for the favorites as Wolves bounced back and were deserved winners. Goals from Elokobi and Kevin Doyle provided the Wolves goals.
Sunday saw Fernando Torres starting for Chelsea and facing his former club Liverpool just days after transferring. Torres was almost invisible as Liverpool kept their fine run of play going winning 1-0. So in the end, Arsenal and Chelsea were unable to capitalize on the Manchester United loss. Man City and Tottenham gained ground and Liverpool find themselves all the way up into 6th place.
