US Women qualify for London Olympics by dispatching Costa Rica

There was to be no hiccup this time.  After almost faltering in the last World Cup qualifying the US women were going to leave nothing to chance in qualifying for the London Olympics.  Friday night they reached their goal by dispatching Costa Rica 3-0.

Tobin Heath scored in the first half, Carli Lloyd and Alex Morgan added goals in the second and the Americans won the CONCACAF qualifying tournament semifinal to earn one of two berths from the region.

The Americans are the two-time defending Olympic champions, having taken the gold in Athens in 2004 and Beijing in 2008. They also will be looking to avenge the disappointment of having lost in the World Cup final last summer.

The women have been in dominating form this week as they have outscored their opponents 34-0 at the qualifying tournament.  The women will close out the qualifying tourney with the final and then head to Dallas to play a friendly against New Zealand.
