The US Under 20 Mens Soccer Team overcame a pair of second half red cards to defeat El Salvador 2-0 and book their place in the 2009 U20 World Cup in Egypt later this year. The game started brightly for the Americans as they came out on the right foot and took the game to El Salvador who needed a win to qualify. The US opened the scoring in the 31st minute as Dilly Duka played a nice ball in for Brian Ownby whose cross found FC Dallas' Brek Shea to finish into the empty net.
Ten minutes later the Under 20s would make it 2-0 when Peri Marosevic sent Tony Taylor in 1v1 with the keeper. Taylor calmly finished for the -0 halftime lead. The second half got a little interesting as Brek Shea was dismissed in the 60th minute for his second yellow. Then in the 84th Jorge Flores was shown a straight red and the US Under 20s were down to 9 men. The defense stood strong and closed out the match and the U20s are Group winners and bound for Egypt 2009. The other spot from Group A to qualify for Egypt 2009 was grabbed by Honduras as they beat Jamaica earlier in the evening.
