The US Under 20 National Soccer Team opened U20 World Cup qualifying with a solid 3-0 win over Jamaica on Friday night in Trinidad. FC Dallas top draft pick Peri Marosevic got the US Under 20s off on the right foot as he knocked home the opening goal in the 8th minute. Dilly Duka, in his first ever international start, crossed a ball into the Jamaican penalty box where Danny Cruz headed the ball to Marosevic for the goal.
Danny Cruz had a golden opportunity in the 26th, but somehow missed an empty net after rounding the goalkeeper. The slim 1-0 lead would hold up into the second half. In the 78th minute it was again Danny Cruz on the ball for the US Under 20s. He got down the right flank and put a ball into the box that found Dilly Duka who knocked it home for a 2-0 lead. With less than 10 minutes to play the US Under 20s would grab their third goal on the evening when Gabe Agbossoumonde flicked a ball over to substitute Billy Schuler for the final margin.
It was quite a debut for Dilly Duka who notched a goal and an assist in the match and the convincing win give the US control of Group A on three points. In the other Group A match, El Salvador grabbed a goal at the death to earn a 2-2 draw with Honduras. Next up for the US Under 20 National Team is Honduras on Sunday evening where a win would clinch a spot in the Under 20 World Cup for the Americans.
