The American women claimed the 2008 Under 20 World Cup defeating Korea DPR 2-1 in Chile behind goals from Sydney Leroux and Alex Morgan. Leroux also claimed the Golden Boot as the top scorer in the tournament. Teammate Alyssa Naeher was named Best Goalkeeper as well.
After a nervous start, Sydney Leroux put the US Women in front in the 23rd minute as her shot was deflected, but found the net. Just before halftime a wonderful individual effort from Alex Morgan yielded the 2nd goal for the Americans. Morgan moved past severl Korean defenders and fired a shot over the keeper's head.
The US Under 20s controlled most of the 2nd half and looked comfortable until Korea grabbed a goal in the 92nd minute. The US killed off the final minute to claim the 2-1 victory and the 2008 Under 20 World Championship.
