The US Under 17 Mens soccer team opened with a dominating win over Cuba in qualifying for the Under 17 World Cup to be held later this year in Nigeria. Jack McInerney led the way with goals in the 34th and 50th minutes. Stefan Jerome opened the scoring for the US U17s in the 32nd minute. Sebastian Lletget added a goal in 40th minute as the US cruised against an outclassed Cuba U17 side. Luis Gil closed out the scoring to give him a goal to go along with two earlier assists. Earl Edwards earned the shutout in goal, but was rarely troubled.
The US U17s will next face Canada on Wednesday in Tijuana, Mexico and then close group play on Friday against Honduras. Honduras and Canada played to a 1-1 draw earlier today in a good result for the USA. Wednesday Honduras will face Cuba in addition to the US-Canada match.
