The US Under 20 Womens National Soccer Team fell in their final group game 2-0 to China. The team had already clinched a place in the quarterfinals of the Under 20 World Cup being held in Chile and rested several major players. The Chinese, on the other hand, had to have a win for any chance to advance from Group B play.
The game went 0-0 to halftime, but the Chinese struck on a corner kick for the game winning goal. American goalkeeper Chantel Jones came out, but watched as the corner kick flew over her head to Zhang Rui who rolled the ball into the net. It was the first goal the US had given up in the tournament. Liu Shukun would score 6 minutes later to put the game away.
The win was not enough for China though as France defeated Argentina in the other Group B match and took the 2nd spot. The United States Under 20s will now await the 2nd place team from Group A for a quarterfinal match on Sunday. England, Nigeria or New Zealand will be the opponent.
