US Soccer Federation Sunil Gulati confirmed that the United States will be bidding for both the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. FIFA has set Monday as the deadline for Federations to declare their interest. US Soccer will formally unveil their plans then.
FIFA has stated that six nations have already expressed their interest Russia, Indonesia, England, Japan, Qatar and a jont Spain/Portugal bid. England look to be the favorites for the 2018 World Cup, but the US looks like a front-runner for the 2022 World Cup.
It has been rumoured that the US might drop its 2018 bid and support England in their bid. In return, England would put its backing behind the US 2022 bid. FIFA says the hosts will be decided in December 2010. The 2010 World Cup will be held in South Africa while Brazil will host the 2014 tournament.
