The young US squad had no trouble in their Gold Cup opener with tiny Grenada winning comfortably 4-0 behind quality efforts from Robbie Rodgers and Stuart Holden. It was a very young US team Bob Bradley chose to face Grenada. In fact 7 of the starters had less than 5 appearances with the US National Team. The inexperience didn't show though as it took only six minutes for the Americans to jump out to a lead.
Robbie Rodgers zipped down the left side and cut into the box where he slid a deft little ball square to Freddy Adu who was running on. Adu slotted the ball home easily and the US had their lead. Kyle Beckerman organized attack after attack for the US as Grenada sat back under the American pressure.
The second goal would come through Robbie Rodgers as well as he flighted in a cross that Stuart Holden headed home in the 30th minute of play. The second half would see much of the same as The US was in total control of things.
In the 59th minute Robbie Rodgers would get the goal he deserved after supplying the two openers and in he 67th minute Charlie Davies would notch the 4th goal for the US men. The match would end quietly after that.
The US men now travel across the country to face Honduras in Washington DC before closing out group play against Haiti next week. Earlier in the night Honduras defeated Haiti 1-0 on a Carlos Costly second half goal.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
