The US Under 20s crashed out of the Under 20 World Cup in Egypt in spectacular fashion as they put on a horrible display in their last Group C match with Korea on Friday. The Koreans entered the game needing a win to advance while the US squad appeared on the upswing having rebounded from an opening defeat to Germany with a solid win over Cameroon. The more desparate Koreans took control right from the start.
Korea bossed the match as Americans Jared Jeffries and Brek Shea continually turned balls over. A Korean corner kick which was not dealt with forced Brian Perk to make a save redirecting the ball off the crossbar, but it was little more than an indication of what was to come. Only minutes later Korea took another corner and once again the US did not deal well leaving Kim Young-Dae to bank the ball in off the post for the lead.
Just before halftime Korea doubled their lead as Bong Kim slotted home. The US had to attack in the 2nd half, but rather than attack they let their desparation show through silly tackles, yellow cards and sending offs. Brek Shea continued his bad day with a nasty tackle that should have earned a red rather than yellow and Ike Opara earned a pair of yellows and a trip to the locker room as the Americans played on with 10 men.
The third Korean goal came from a penalty sending Brian Perk the wrong way. All in all, it was a horrid show by a US side that was expected to do better in the Under 20 World Cup. There is still a very very slim chance to advance but it will take a series of results and mutliple goal results that will not happen.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
