This is the time for experimentation with the next World Cup cycle just starting. The US and Coach Bob Bradley did just that Tuesday night as they played to a scoreless draw with Columbia in Pennsylvania. The Americans ran out a 4-3-3 formation in the opening half with Brek Shea and Eric Lichaj getting their first international appearance. It didn't work out too well as Columbia was content to play a short passing game and keep possession rather than go seek a goal. The Americans just didn't get the wide play to cause Columbia any problems. Backup US keeper Brad Guzan made a nice save in the first half to keep the match scoreless.
The second half saw the US move to more of a 4-5-1 formation, but that really did little for the attack either. The match was nothing like the freeflowing and attacking game with Poland on the weekend. The Americans did almost steal the match at the end, but Jozy Altidore's header was nicely saved by the Columbian goalkeeper.
One would have hoped a friendly, with basically nothing on the line, would have generated a flowing and offensive match. Unfortunately we were not treated to that Tuesday night. Jermaine Jones was a bright spot though as he showed over the two matches that he is definitely worthy of playing alongside Michael Bradley in the US midfield.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
