A strong start and a solid first ended with nothing to show for it. The Americans looked bright in the opening half as they took the game to Ecuador at Red Bull Stadium in New York Tuesday night. Unfortunately they were still 0-0 after 45 minutes of play.
Chances that go unfinished in soccer usually get you punished later on. Such was the case tonight as Ecuador scored a late goal to steal a 1-0 victory over the US National Team. Brek Shea was once again a bright spot and whispers of big offers on the way from clubs in Europe.
After the break the game bogged down a bit as Ecuador sat back and the US subs failed to make an impact. Finally Ecuador broke through seemingly with a goal out of nowhere. The Americans allowed Ecuador to turn a throw in into a goal as they took the throw in the left corner and were allowed to get a cross into the US penalty box. American centerback Tim Ream was caught flat footed as Jaime Corozo slipped inside of him to head past Tim Howard. A goal that should never happen at that level ended up costing the US the game.
In the end it was another loss for new coach Jurgen Klinsmann and another game the US failed to score. They have only been able to manage two goals in Jurgen's five games in charge.

The US women have their new star. First there was Mia Hamm. Then there was Abby Wambach. It looks like young Alex Morgan is the next in line of the great American womens goal scorer.
