Surprise was the dish of the day on Tuesday as one of the biggest upsets in Champions League history took place when little FK Rubin Kazan went to the Nou Camp and stunned Barcelona 2-1. Other upsets on the day saw Liverpool falling at home to Lyon 2-1 and Inter Milan being held to a 2-2 draw in Italy by Dynamo Kiev.
Nobody gave FK Rubin Kazan a chance heading into the Nou Camp to face star studded Barcelona, but the little guys stood strong. Rubin jumped out to an early lead but Zlatan Ibrahimovic tied the match heading into halftime. The winner came in the 73rd minute when Karadeniz Gökdeniz scored. Barca pushed for the equalizer but were denied by the woodwork and FK Rubin Kazan held on for the monster win.
The other big upset on the day was Liverpool losing at home to Lyon. Liverpool jumped ahead via Yossi Benayoun, but Lyon scored twice in the second half to stun the home side. Lyon leads the group on a perfect nine points from three matches.
Inter Milan were held at home to a draw by Dynamo Kiev having to come from behind late to earn the point. Inter is winless so far and in serious jeopardy of crashing out of the Champions League.
Arsenal were also unable to grab all three points as they surrendered a late goal to allow Az Alkmaar to earn a draw. Arsenal still sit atop the group and look favorites to advance to the knockout rounds. Another surprise was Rangers getting crushed at home 4-1 by Urinea Urziceni.
