The newest MLS side Philadelphia Union snatched their first 10 players in an MLS expansion draft held Wednesday. The Union are joining MLS play next fall and will be the 16th MLS team. For today's expansion draft ach MLS team was allowed to protect 11 players, leaving all others available for selection by the Union. Coach Peter Nowak selected 10 players from among approximately 200 left unprotected by MLS clubs.

Andrew Jacobsen (M), DC United
Brad Knighton (G), New England Revolution
Sebastien Le Toux (F), Seattle Sounders FC
Stefani Miglioranzi (M), LA Galaxy
Alejandro Moreno (F), Columbus Crew
Dave Myrie (D), Chicago Fire
Shea Salinas (M), San Jose Earthquakes
Shavar Thomas (D, Chivas USA
Nick Zimmerman (M), New York Red Bulls
Both Alejandro Moreno and Shavar Thomas started 17 games for their respective clubs in 2009. Five teams did not have a player selected. FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Kansas City Wizards, Real Salt Lake and Toronto FC all failed to lose a player.
