Hosts Nigeria cruised into the semifinals at the Under 17 World Cup defeating Korea 3-1. They'll join Spain, Switzerland and Columbia in the final four. A wild home crowd spurred Nigeria's Under 17s forward as they overwhelmed Korea Republic right from the opening whistle. Nigeria were deservedly in front when Korea stunned the home crowd with a wonderful long range strike from Son Heung Min which came on Korea's only real attack of the night. Nigeria would grab control and run away with the match in the second half behind goals from Abdul Ajagun and Terry Envoh.
Columbia advanced to the semifinal round after dispatching Turkey in penalty kicks. The two sides tied 1-1 through extra time with Columbia converting all five shots in the shootout. Joining Columbia and Nigeria will be Spain who won a thrilling match over Uruguay. Spain looked to be very comfortable holding a 3-1 lead and Uruguay being down to ten men, but Uruguay would produce a stunning comeback grabbing two goals in the final 20 minutes to send the game to extra time tied at three. Spain would claim the penalty shootout when Uruguay misfired on two attempts.
The surprising Swiss are the fourth Under 17 World Cup semifinalist as they took out Italy 2-1. Switzerland was the deserving side showing quality possession and shutting down the counterattacking Italians.
Spain will have the difficult task of facing host Nigeria in one semifinal while Columbia and Switzerland will square up in the other semifinal.
