Tottenham Hotspurs continued their charmed start to the 2009 English Premier League season grabbing the winner in the 95th minute to defeat hardluck Birmingham Saturday at White Hart Lane. Soccer can be a cruel cruel game and such was the case for upstart Birmingham. They did everything a visiting side needed to do. Birmingham weathered Tottenham attacks and took the match to halftime scoreless.
When Peter Crouch gave Tottenham the lead in the 71st minute Lee Bowyer answered just 3 minutes later to even the score again. Birmingham even were able to push for the winner as regular time drew near. Unfortunately, a mistake would cap the day as Stephen Carr would stumble on the ball and turn it over in the midfield. Tottenham raced forward with Aaron Lennon cutting inside and firing the winner home 30 seconds from time.
The late winner continues the Tottenham hot start as they remain perfect through 4 matches with a plus 7 goal differential. A break for World Cup qualifying is next weekend, but upon return to EPL play Tottenham host last years champions Manchester United with a chance for Tottenham to really throw their hat into the title chase.
