A second half header from Peter Crouch clinched no worse than fourth for the English Premier League and lifted Tottenham to their first ever Champions League qualification. Manchester City, with their deep pockets, were built just for this game. Hosting Tottenham and needing a win to take the drivers seat for their very own Champions League spot. Instead, it was Tottenham who were up for the challenge.
The first half saw both sides getting chances as the play was fast and wide open. Ledley King, Gomes and the Tottenham defense stymied several Manchester City scoring chances while the City defense stood strong before every Spurs challenge.
The longer the match went though, the better the Spurs got as they pushed Man City deeper and deeper into their side. Earlier in the second half Peter Crouch got loose for a free header that City keeper Marton Fulop somehow kept out of the net. It just a preview of what was to come though as in the 82nd minute Crouch headed home a Fulop reaction save off a close range cross from Younes Kaboul.
Tottenham clinches at least fourth place and have a chance to jump over Arsenal and into third this weekend. The top three get automatic places in the Champions League group phase while fourth must qualify for group play.
