February 4th is the National Letter of Intent Day for mens soccer. That's the day players can formalize agreements with colleges to join their programs, though most of the top prospects made up their minds about their college plans in the fall or even last summer. Look for full coverage of college signings next month and throughout the spring here on SoccerMogul.
Many of the US Youth National Team boys have made their decisions. Alex Tarnoczi of Real Colorado has decided to stay close to home and join a rapidly improving Denver program and star forward Ahkeel Rodney from B/W Gottschee is headed to Virginia next year.
Duke has picked up a pair of quality verbals from Andrew Wenger from PA Classics and Ryan Finley of PDA. Akron has put together a very impressive group of verbals with Ben Speves of the Columbus Crew Jrs, goalkeeper David Meves from Sockers FC, Zarek Valentin from IMG Academy and Chad Barson also from Columbus Crew Jrs among their commitments. All four have played with the US Under 18s. UCLA has also rounded up commitments from youth national teamers Gale Agbossoumonde from IMG Academy, Dakota Collins and Michael Roman of Real So Cal.
Dallas studs Dillon Powers and Grant Van De Casteele from defending national champions Andromeda have pledged to play at Notre Dame next year. NCAA Champions Maryland have commitments from Taylor Kemp of Real Colorado and Jordan Cyrus from Norfolk, Virginia to add to their strong squad.
California has commitments from 3 players that made NSCAA/Adidas All-Region IV in Johnny Espinoza and John Fitzpatrick both of San Diego Surf along with Steven Birnbaum from Pateadores.
