The Carlos Tevez and Gary Neville feud continues to heat up as Tevez labelled Neville a "sock sucker and a moron in the press Thursday. Everyone is familiar with the way Carlos Tevez exited Manchester United last year to move to crosstown rivals Manchester City. Nobody could dismiss the hard feelings Tevez felt over his stay at United.
Last week things boiled over as the two sides met in a Carling Cup semifinal match. After scoring the opening goal for City, Carlos Tevez ran at the United bench making a gesture with his hands as if to say shut up. After Tevez scored his second, he once again approached the United bench with his hands cupped at his ears.
The second demonstration earned a response from Gary Neville who was wamring up for United on the sideline. Neville shot Tevez the finger for all to see. The British media jumped all over the story and it has been all over the papers since. On Thursday Carlos Tevez spoke out about the incident. Tevez labelled Neville a "sock sucker".
Speaking in a radio interview in his native language on ESPN Argentina, Tevez said: "My celebration was directed at Gary Neville. He acted like a complete sock-sucker [boot-licker] when he said I wasn't worth £25 million just to suck up to the manager. I don't know what the hell that idiot is talking about me for. I never said anything about him. I will never show a lack of respect towards anyone. Just as I was running off to celebrate the penalty I had scored, I came across Gary and I said to myself: "Shut your trap, keep quiet".
Gary was very disrespectful, which is out of character, but he didn't know the whole story of why I left Manchester United and I believe I deserved his respect,'' Tevez had said. "Football is a form of theatre and it was just a form of banter. There was nothing malicious intended. I was not trying to incite anyone but I was entitled to say to Neville that he should have been more respectful.
Now we can only await the response from Gary Neville!
