The round of 32 is in the books and 16 college soccer teams remain fighting it out for a spot in the 2009 College Cup. Most notably #1 Akron continues their quest for a perfect season and an NCAA soccer championship as they dispatched South Florida 2-0 Sunday afternoon behind two goals from Anthony Ampaipitakwong. Next up for Akron will be Stanford next weekend.
Outside of Akron, the hottest team in the country has to be Virginia who posted yet another shutout as they destroyed Bucknell 5-0. It was their 9th straight shutout. Virginia will face a Portland squad that came crosscountry and defeated North Carolina State 2-1 in the round of 32. Also advancing from the ACC were North Carolina, Boston College, Wake Forest, Duke and Maryland giving the ACC 6 of the final 16 left in the tournament.
The biggest upsets in the round of 32 belonged to Drake who knocked out #4 seeded Ohio State 1-0. Maryland took out #7 seed Penn State 2-1 and Duke defeated #14 seed Michigan State 2-1.
