The knockout rounds are underway at the Under 20 World Cup in Egypt and shockers have ruled the round of 16 so far. Costa Rica took out the host Egypt squad while Korea went 3-0 on a strong Paraguay side and Italy took out favorites Spain.
A huge home crowd packed the house expecting Egypt to take care of Costa Rica, but that was hardly the case as Costa Rica ran out 2-0 winners on the day behind goals from Jose Mena and Marcos Urena on each side of halftime. It was a disappointing result for the hosts that saw a draw that could have seen them to the semifinals at least.
Spain crashed out after cruising through the opening round and looking to be serious favorites to win it all. Instead an Italy side that had looked very ordinary before rose up and shocked Spain with 3 2nd half goals winning 3-1. A red card to Spain in the first half greatly influenced the match and had Spain fighting uphill all match.
Korea continued their rise as they easily dispatched Paraguay 3-0 and look to be a team nobody wants to face. Next up for Korea will be Ghana who defeated South Africa in extra time. Italy will face Hungary who sent Czech Republic home in penalties.
