Ukranian side Shaktar Donetsk needed overtime, but defeated Werder Bremen of Germany 2-1 to win the 2009 UEFA Cup. Shakhtar and their Brazilian attackers controlled large portions of the UEFA Cup final as they took the match to the Germans who preferred to sit back and counterattack all evening. Luiz Adriano put Shakhtar in front in the 25th minute, but Bremen equalized only 10 minutes later through Naldo.
The match would go to overtime where another Brazilian would find the winner. Jadson hit a low shot on frame in the 97th minute. It looked like Werder Bremen keeper Tim Wiese had it covered, but the ball slipped under him and into the net for the decisive goal.
Definitely a soft goal to decide the UEFA Cup, but Shakhtar Donetsk were definitely the deserving squad on the night .
