Seattle Sounders arrive with a Bang

Seattle Sounders arrive with a Bang

Fredy Montero and the Seattle Sounders announced their arrival on the MLS scene with an emphatic 3-0 home win over New York Red Bull Thursday night in front of a raucus home crowd of over 32,000.  The environment was incredible as the crowd yelled and cheered the entire match and Fredy Montero arrived to continue his goal scoring prowess from South America.  After tearing up the Columbian league the last couple of years, the young Fredy Montero ran wild on a confused Red Bull defense.

In only the 12th minute Montero found himself with room at the top right of the NY penalty box.  He received a pass from Sebastien Le Toux and hit a low shot into the left side netting for the lead and first goal in Seattle Sounders FC history.  Only 13 minutes later a good run from the midfield allowed Brad Evans to get loose in the box.  He turned and hit a quick low shot that surprised the onrushing Red Bull keeper Cepero going right through his legs and into the net.  The Seatlle lead would hold up into the 2nd half.

New York looked more organized in the 2nd half and forced Seattle keeper Kasey Keller into a couple of soild saves.  The Seattle defense would not break though and in the 75 a Red Bull defensive mistake closed the door.  Mike Petke horribly turned a ball over to Montero 30 yards from goal.  Montero gathered the ball and raced in on goal finishing nicely into the top right of the net.

It was a wonderful evening for Seattle as well as MLS.  The crowd and passion was wonderful as Seattle FC announced their arrival with a 3-0 beating of New York Red Bull.
