The expansion Seattle Sounders continued their successful opening MLS season on Saturday with a 3-2 win over Kansas City which clinched a place in the upcoming MLS playoffs. Seattle becomes the first MLS team to earn a playoff position since 1998. The Kansas City win was helped when The Wizards found out they were officially eliminated from playoff contention before gametime. The news definitely took some of the air out of the team.
Seattle took a 1-0 lead to halftime on a Tyrone Marshall goal, but Kansas City regrouped at the break and came out strong. Zoltan Hercegfalvi and Josh Wolff had given KC the lead after only 10 minutes. Credit to Seattle though as they didnt fold. Roger Levesque tied it and Nate Jaqua got the winner.
Seattle had their well earned and much deserved playoff spot. Nobody expected Seattle to do what they have done this year, but it was evident from the opening night this group would be a bit special. With Freddy Montero splashing onto the scene and wonderful home crowds Seattle has become a favorite around MLS. A season closing home game with FC Dallas awaits and then onward to the playoffs
