It looked like Manchester United were heading to a disappointing 0-0 draw in the Manchester Derby with City. Then up stepped veteran Paul Scholes who had just penned a new contract last week. With time running out, Scholes headed Manchester United back into the EPL title race as they trail Chelsea by only a point with three games left to play.
Manchester City must feel cursed as they have lost both games with rivals United this season deep into stoppage time. This time in the 93rd minute Paul Scholes headed home a perfect cross from Patrice Evra and Manchester United put the pressure back onto Chelsea who would play later in the day at Tottenham.
Both teams had plenty to play for at White Hart Lane as Chelsea visited Tottenham. Chelsea were fighting for the EPL title, while Tottenham are fighting it out with Manchester City for the 4th and final Champions League spot for next year. It was Tottenham that would take the initiative on the day. It was a horrid day for John Terry as his first incident was a handball leading to a penalty kick in the 15th minute. Jermaine DeFoe knocked it home and Spurs were on their way. When Gareth Bale scored just before halftime Chelsea were in real trouble.
Halftime saw John Terry get in a spat with a fan on his way to the lockeroom and things would only get worse in the 2nd half. Terry picked up a pair of yellows and was off the field capping his bad day. Frank Lampard would grab one back in the 90th minute, but it was all Chelsea could muster on the day as the EPL title race was reopened.
With only three games to play Chelsea leads Manchester United by a single point. Chelsea is at home to a stingy Stoke side next weekend while United hosts Tottenham.
