Round of 16 set at 2010 World Cup

Round of 16 set at 2010 World Cup

Group play has concluded at the 2010 World Cup and the field has been cut in half.  The final 16 is set and there are some mouthwatering matches coming up.  Here is a look ahead at the round of 16 matches.

Uruguay - South Korea
The South Americans are definitely the favorites, but do not count out South Korea.  Uruguay has yet to concede a goal and are led on offense by Diego Forlan.  Both sides like to attack so do not be surprised to see a higher scoring game.

USA - Ghana
Can the Americans get back up after such an emotional win on Wednesday?  The crowd will definitely be behind Ghana, who are the only African side left in the tournament.  The US defense will have their work cut out for them trying to contain the Ghana attack, but the US should find opportunities at the other end to score goals.

Holland - Slovakia
Can the Dutch overcome their demons from the last World Cup when they also opened winning all three group games and then crashed out in the first knockout game?   Slovakia looks to keep their cinderella status after taking down Italy.

Brazil - Chile
The two South American sides square off.  Chile will not be scared of Brazil, but are major underdogs.  Look for Brazil to stretch their wings a bit and start their run to the finals.

Germany - England
All one can say is WOW.  What a game for the first knockout round.  Both teams had some disappointment in the group games and will be looking to get on a roll.   Unfortunately, this side of the bracket is a killer with Argentina up next.

Argentina - Mexico
Poor poor Mexico.  Argentina is in form and looking like a side with real thoughts on winning the tournament.  Mexico will not sit back in this one, which leads one to expect goals and goals.  Could be a 3-1 type of game.

Paraguay - Japan
Anything goes in this one.  Japan has been a pleasant surprise and is very unpredictable.  Paraguay put together a good run in winning their group, but musn't take Japan lightly.

Spain - Portugal
Another WOW game.  Neighbors and archrivals.  Expect anything in this one, but do not miss it!  Wide open with plenty of flair and expect some hard tackles as well.
