The quarterfinals are all set at the 2010 World Cup as South America sends four through. Seven of the eight group winners advanced in the round of 16 setting up some mouthwatering quarterfinal matchups. Spain looked deserved winners today as they knocked off neighbors Portugal on a second half goal from David Villa.
Uruguay - Ghana
The last hope for Africa goes Friday against the cinderellas from South America Uruguay. It will be a battle of wills as Ghana likes to flow forward freely while Uruguay depend upon a watertight defense. Should be a fascinating match. If Ghana can get an early goal the game would really open up. Otherwise look for a tight defensive match.
Brazil - Holland
A rematch from the storied 1994 quarterfinal in Dallas, Texas. One can only hope this game is as good and it should be. Two of the heavyweights to show off here. Expect to see both sides go forward as Holland won't sit back.
Argentina - Germany
Another monster matchup with two in form sides. Both teams put on dominating performances in the round of 16 and look to ride the wave onward. Expect a high scoring affair with the free flowing Argentina attack through Messi and Higuain. Germany will look to counter and take advantage of set pieces and crosses.
Spain - Paraguay
Another surprise South American squad against the European champions. The lack of offense from Paraguay should have Spain's mouths watering. Look for Spain to have too much firepower for the defensive minded Paraguayans.
