The pairings have been drawn for the eight European squads in the playoffs for a spot in South Africa for World Cup 2010 next summer. The marquee matchup is clearly Ireland against France. The opening leg will be played in Ireland next month. The two sides traditionally play very low scoring affairs with only a single goal total to show from a pair of meetings in 2006.
Greece, the 2004 Euro Champions will face off against Andriy Shevchenko and Ukraine. The opening leg will be played in Greece.
Russia were drawn against surprising Slovenia and will be the heavy favorites. Russia will open at home with the return leg taking place in Slovenia.
The final grouping pits powerful Portugal and Cristiano Ronaldo against Bosnia. It will be a tricky fixture for Portugal who stumbled through qualifying only to salvage a playoff position at the end. The two will open in Portugal.
The four winners will earn spots in South Africa for World Cup 2010 next June.
