Michael Owen has signed a two year deal to move to Manchester United from Newcastle in a move that almost nobody saw coming just a few days ago. The disgruntled Owen had been on the market for weeks, but seemed to have no takers at all other than Hull who were desperate for his services.
Then, boom, Manchester United enters the picture and a deal is done in hours. Owen commented "This is a fantastic opportunity for me and I intend to seize it with both hands. I am now looking forward to being a Manchester United player and I am fortunate that I already know so many of the players here. I missed pre season last year and am pleased that I will be starting at Carrington from day one. I want to thank Sir Alex for the faith he has shown in me and I give him my assurance that I will repay him with my goals and performances"
With Carlos Tevez departing and the club unable to land David Villa or Karim Benzema it seems Michael Owen is needed to fill some of the scoring void at Old Trafford next year. The hope is that Owen will be healthy after slogging through an injury filled 2008 at Newcastle.
In other EPL transfer news, Chelsea has snatched Man City forward Daniel Sturridge on a four year deal. Seems with all the new arrivals at City the club felt developing the young forward was not in their plans. Chelsea also has spurned repeated approaches by Man City about their captain John Terry.
