The first round of the NCAA mens soccer tournament is complete with the 2nd round matches scheduled for Wednesday night across the country. There were plenty of surprises in the first round and some tantalizing 2nd round matchups loom ahead.
Several upsets dotted the opening games. Illinois-Chicago held St Louis scoreless and won the game in penalties to advance to play local rival Northwestern. St Louis extended their recent history of crashing out of early in front of the home fans. Harvard dropped a home match to Central Connecticut State while Oakland knocked off Michigan State.
Several enticing 2nd round games loom as SMU faces Creighton, UCLA faces Santa Clara, Virginia faces West Virginia and Louisville travels to Ohio State.
