NCAA 2008 Womens Soccer Tournament Announced

The NCAA released the brackets and seeding for the 2008 Womens Soccer Tournament this evening.  The four #1 seeds are Notre Dame, North Carolina, UCLA and Stanford.  The ACC leads all conferences with eight teams in the tournament, while six teams will represent the Big 12, the SEC and the Pac 10.  Four teams made the tourney from the Big Ten and the Big East with three teams from the Colonial Athletic.  Seven teams are making their first appearance in the NCAA women's tournament and include: Army, Belmont, Long Beach State, Morehead State, Northern Arizona, Northeastern and South Dakota State.

First round play begins Friday with the 27th annual NCAA Women’s College Cup to be played December 5 - 7 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina. The top seeds in each region:

1. Notre Dame
2. Florida State
3. Boston College
4. Colorado

1. Stanford
2. Portland
3. Wake Forest
4. Oklahoma State

1. UCLA
2. Virginia
3. Duke
4. USC

1. North Carolina
2. Florida
3. Texas A&M
4. Missouri

North Carolina scored the early goal and then had lady luck shine in grand fashion as they pulled the upset over #1 Wake Forest in an immensely entertaining Mens College Cup semifinal. The other semifinal saw Maryland totally outclass St Johns, but need overtime to win, as St Johns keeper Neal Kitson made several wonderful saves. Read More

The 2008 NCAA Mens Soccer Final Four is set for next weekend at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas, Texas. The ACC showed why it is considered the top conference in the country as 3 teams advanced.
