Montreal Impact take Andrew Wenger of Duke 1st in MLS Superdraft

Montreal Impact take Andrew Wenger of Duke 1st in MLS Superdraft
The expansion Montreal Impact have made versatile Andrew Wenger the top overall pick in the 2012 MLS Superdraft.  Wenger was widely considered the talent of 2012 class as he led Duke into the NCAA Tournament.

The question is where will Andrew Wenger play?  He began his college career at Duke as a defender where he won ACC accolades as player of the year.  This year he moved to striker where he notched 17 goals and 8 assists.

So where will Wenger play for the Impact?  Ask Andrew Wenger and he says he would like to play in the midfield ironically.  With two months until the MLS season opens, Montreal has some time to make that decision.

The Vancouver Whitecaps nabbed Akron forward Darren Mattocks with the 2nd pick while UCLA midfielder Kelyn Rowe went 3rd to New England and Maryland forward Casey Townsend 4th to Toronto FC.  The steal of the draft might belong to FC Dallas who grabbed North Carolina centerback Matt Hedges with the 11 pick.  The 6'4 defender could step right in and fill the shoes of George John who has just signed with West Ham in England.
