The opening leg of matches have been played in the first round of the 2009 MLS Playoffs with all left to play for in the 2nd legs this coming weekend. The most entertaining game of the opening weekend was the SuperClassico between Chivas USA and the Los Angeles Galaxy. A up and down affair between local rivals is as good as anyone could ask for in a MLS playoff matchup. The first leg sure didn't disappoint as offense was on display and some poor defending ruled the day.
Chivas USA jumped ahead with an early goal from Maicon Santos, but the Galaxy would rally back and lead at the half on goals frolm Landon Donovan and Mike Magee. Maykel Galindo answered back just after halftime and the game would settle in a 2-2 draw. Los Angeles was the road team for the game so they'll have the slight advantage heading to the second leg Sunday.
The Houston Dynamo accomplished their mission travelling to Seattle and coming away with a 0-0 draw. The Seattle Sounders have been very good at home all year so a draw for Dynamo is money in the bank now heading home to Houston this weekend.
Real Salt Lake and the Columbus Crew looked heading to a scdoreless draw as well in Utah. That was until Robbie Finley sent the home side into a frenzy scoring in the final minutes to lift Real Salt Lake to the victory. All the pressure is on Columbus now heading back to Ohio this weekend.
New England rallied from a first half deficit to win 2-1 at home. Shalrie Joseph notched the winner in the 75th minute of play and the Revolution will hold the slight advantage heading back to Chicago. The Fire did grab an important road goal early on from Chris Rolfe and will only need a 1-0 win at home this weekend.
