It's a rematch of most unlikely proportions. Houston was the lowest seed in the Eastern Conference and the Galaxy were the 4th seed in the West. Both talented teams for sure, but neither were expected to make road runs to MLS Cup 2012.
Houston took out a young DC United squad in the Eastern Conference Finals. The was tested veterans of the Dynamo proved to be too much for the youth of DC. A dominant 3-1 win in Houston was followed by a workman-like 1-1 draw at DC. The Dynamo were always in control of the matchup and were deserving winners.
The Galaxy went in underdogs to a very good Seattle Sounders team, but a dominating 3-0 win at The Home Depot Center flipped the script. Robbie Keane once again showed his class notching a pair of goals in the blowout.
Both teams knew it was far from over despite the 3-0 deficit as there is no tougher place to play in the MLS than Seattle. The Sounders returned home set on getting the goals back. After 60 minutes the Sounders had gotten two gaols back and were on the verge of a historic comeback.
Then came a call of most controversial nature. Robbie Keane lifted a quick cross from inside the Sounders penalty area. The ball struck Seattle defender Adam Johansson and referee Mark Geiger duly pointed to the spot. Robbie Keane knocked in the spotkick and Los Angeles were heading back to the MLS Cup.
Can the Galaxy make it two championships in a row? They get the match on home soil, but do not count out the grit of the Houston Dynamo. It should be an epic MLS Cup 2012.
