Real Salt Lake continued their run of solid play as they demolished DC United 3-0 on the weekend. An early goal from Alvaro Saborio sent the defending MLS champs on their way as they continue to try to chase down the LA Galaxy at the top of the Western Conference.
They might just be able to do it if the Galaxy continue slumping. After a tremendous start to the season when the LA defense posted shutout after shutout, the defense has gone south. Goals are starting to pour in. Puerto Rico notched four last week and on Sunday Chicago scored three in the opening 20 minutes at the Home Depot Center. The Galaxy tried to rally, but could not overcome the deficit falling 3-2.
The other hot team in MLS is FC Dallas. They have been earning tough points on the road over the last month, notching draws in Seattle, Toronto and Colorado. The team is unbeaten in eight and slowly reeling in the Galaxy along with RSL.
The big news in the Eastern Conference is not a hot team, but rather the New York Red Bulls new signings. Thierry Henry made an immediate impact with a pair of assists in a 2-2 draw with Houston. The team is expected to announce Rafa Marquez as their newest signing this week. We'll see if all the big names can catch Columbus.
Meanwhile, the Crew sit 7 points clear at the top of the standings despite their upset loss to Chivas USA on the weekend. Interestingly enough they are the only squad in the entire Eastern Conference with a positive goal differential on the year. Shows how strong the Western Conference has been so far.

It went exactly as expected. Playing at their home field where they had not lost all season, the LA Galaxy beat a feisty Houston Dynamo squad 1-0 to take the 2011 MLS Cup.
