The Kansas City Wizards became the first 2 game winner in MLS this season with 3-2 win over Colorado. Meanwhile, the defending champion Houston Dynamo needed an injury time goal to earn a home draw with FC Dallas. DC United opened a can on Toronto FC who became the first 2 game loser this season.
DC United 4 Toronto FC 1
D.C. United ended a two-game scoreless streak in style with a 4-1 destruction of Toronto FC at RFK Stadium on Saturday night, notching their first league win of the season on the strength of goals from Luciano Emilio, Santino Quaranta, Marcelo Gallardo and captain Jaime Moreno, who came off the bench to make his first appearance of the MLS season in the second half.
New York Red Bull 2 Columbus 0
Dave van den Bergh got the Red Bulls' season off to the best possible start, scoring the fastest goal in team history to lift New York to a 2-0 victory against the Columbus Crew at Giants Stadium Saturday night. After Sinisa Ubiparipovic dispossessed Guillermo Barros Schelotto in midfield, van den Bergh took two dribbles and fired a left-footed shot from 22 yards out off a diving Will Hesmer and into the net just 46 seconds into the match. The Dutch midfielder also scored the lone goal in the Red Bulls' 1-0 victory against the Carolina RailHawks, the club's final preseason tune-up last week.
FC Dallas 3 Houston Dynamo 3
A last-second shot saved the day for the Houston Dynamo, who were just three minutes away from starting the MLS season 0-2 after winning back-to-back MLS Cups. Making his first-ever start, Geoff Cameron took a pass from Brian Ching and drilled a shot just under the crossbar in the 91st minute and brought the Dynamo back for a 3-3 tie Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium. Franco Caraccio and an own goal provided the other goals for Houston, who rallied to avenge a 3-0 loss in their season opener at New England last weekend. Kenny Cooper scored two goals for FC Dallas and Arturo Alvarez scored the other for the Hoops, who were just minutes away from winning their first ever game in Houston.
Chivas USA 3 Real Salt Lake 1
Sacha Kljestan and Atiba Harris scored on either side of halftime as Chivas USA beat Real Salt Lake 3-1 in the Red-and-White's home opener. Beating RSL is nothing new for Chivas USA, as the hosts improved to 6-0-1 all-time against their fellow 2005 expansion side at The Home Depot Center. Alecko Eskandarian also scored for Chivas USA, as the former MLS Cup Most Valuable Player bagged a goal three minutes into stoppage time.
