Jeff Cunningham has found new life in Dallas. On Sunday, he continued his hot play as he notched a pair of goals and an assist as FC Dallas improved their playoff prospects with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Brimstone Cup rivals Chicago Fire. The veteran forward both opened and closed the scoring for the hosts, with an Aaron Pitchkolan strike and Bruno Guarda's first MLS goal sandwiched in between. Brian McBride grabbed a late consolation tally for the Fire.
On Saturday, Landon Donovan fired a hat trick as Los Angeles busted out of a long winless slide by blistering D.C. United 5-2. Devon McTavish put the capital crew ahead on only four minutes, but a Donovan double and Alan Gordon's fifth of the season had the Galaxy up two by the break. Thabiso Khumalo opened his MLS career account to cut the lead on 48 minutes, but Pete Vagenas and Donovan added on late to stretch the margin.
Visiting New England fought back for a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids. Colin Clark bagged one for the Rapids just before halftime, but Kenny Mansally leveled matters five minutes after.
Finally, Alecko Eskandarian hit the winner with 18 minutes left to lift Chivas USA 1-0 at Real Salt Lake. It was an important win for Chivas USA as it vaulted them past Real Salt Lake and into a playoff position. All is left to play for in the Western Conference as 6 teams currently are within 2 games of each other for the final 2 playoff spots.
