US collapses in 2nd half as Mexico claims 2009 Gold Cup
After watching the first half of play nobody could have seen the 2nd half deluge coming.  The US and Mexico were battling it out in an entertaining match.  Both sides created chances in the opening half but nobody could break through and the game went 0-0 to halftime.

It was a very questionable penalty kick that opened the flood gates as Giovani Dos Santos and Jay Heaps tusseled in the US box.  Gerardo Torrado blasted home the spot kick and Mexico were on their way.  With the soft call the wind was clearly out of the American sails and the rout was on.  The US backline just completely fell apart as Heath Pierce and Jay Heaps were suddenly nowhere to be found and Mexico was surging ahead.  After that it was a succession of goals from Mexico as Dos Santos, Carlos Vela, Jose Castro and Guillermo Franco would all find the net.  The young US squad was finally exposed after a long run to the Gold Cup final.

The result will just add more drama to next month's World Cup qualifier between the US and Mexico to take place in Mexico City.  It will be an entirely different American squad though as maybe only a couple of the Gold Cup rostered players will be on the team.
