Everything was in place for a wonderful victory. An early goal. A rowdy home crowd. A penalty kick. Brazil's Dani Alves shown a second yellow and sent to the showers. Somehow, Mexico still found a way to choke against the South Americans losing 2-1 to a pair of second half goals.
Mexico got the dream start they craved as Brazil's David Luiz sent Pablo Barrera's cross into his own net in the tenth minute. The home side looked to be on their way to another victory as they played their typical free flowing attacking style.
Things would get better for Mexico later in the fist half as a cross for Javier Hernandez caused Dani Alves to shoulder him wildly to the ground. The referee rightly pointed to the penalty spot and showed Alves his second yellow. Mexico should have had a stranglehold on the match. Instead Andres Guardado saw his low spot kick saved by Jefferson.
The second half saw the home side fail to take advantage of their extra man advantage as Brazil fought their way back behind Ronaldinho and the young Neymar. Brazil would tie the game in the 79th minute as Ronaldinho would fire home another of his trademark freekicks.
Only minutes later Brazil shocked the home crowd as they grabbed the winning goal. Marcelo linked up with Neymar on a nice combination before Marcelo knocked home the winner. A disappointing loss for sure as everything was in Mexico's favor for a historic victory. Instead they'll be left shaking their heads as they let Brazil off the hook. It was coach Jose Manuel De la Torre's first defeat in his 14 games in charge.
