The 2008 NCAA Mens Soccer Final Four is set for next weekend at Pizza Hut Park in Dallas, Texas. The ACC showed why it is considered the top conference in the country as 3 teams advanced. The four teams earning their way to the College Cup are Maryland, North Carolina, Wake Forest and St Johns.
Wake Forest 5 South Florida 0
The #1 team in the nation once again showed why as Wake Forest crushed one of the best defensive teams in the nation, South Florida, 5-0. Five different Wake players scored as they as odds on favorites to win the national championship.
Maryland 1 Creighton 0
Rodney Wallace scored a diving header off a cross from Michael Marchiano. The goal would be all the home side would need to book their place in the College Cup as Omar Gonzalez led the Maryland defense to a shutout.
St Johns 3 Indiana 2
With only 18 minutes to go it looked like Indiana was safely on their way to the college Cup as they lad St Johns 2-0. Then St Johns got it together and led a furious rally that saw them score twice in the final 10 minutes to send the match to overtime. Nelson Becerra netted a penalty kick in overtime to win the match for St Johns.
North Carolina 1 Northwestern 0
UNC made it 3 ACC teams in the College Cup as they defeated Northwestern 1-0 Saturday. Kirk Urso scored the winner in the 61st minute . North Carolina will now face rivals Wake Forest in the Final Four next weekend.
