A third minute goal would hold up as Maryland claimed the 2008 ACC Tournament title defeating Virginia 1-0. The Virginia Cavalliers had another upset on their mind as they had previously klnocked off #1 ranked and unbeaten Wake Forest in the semifinal. Maryland would have none of it though as Jeremy Hall got on the end of a perfectly served ball from freshman Casey Townsend. Townsend got in wide and floated a cross which Hall knocked in from close range. It was Hall's 13th goal this season and his 2nd of the tournament.
"We knew the best defense would win this tournament," head coach Sasho Cirovski said. "I challenged this team to define their identity and we made this a program goal. I am extremely happy and proud of this team."
Maryland now looks in good shape to possibly get one of the top seeds for the upcoming NCAA Tournament.
