Manchester United left it late once again. Two weeks ago they scored at the death to defeat Man City. Today they got an own goal in stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw with Sunderland. Darren Bent stunned the Old Trafford crowd as he put Sunderland ahead after only 7 minutes. The lead would stand up until after halftime when United rallied.
On 51 minutes the home side were able to level the score when Dimitar Berbatov got up for a perfect overhead kick which found the corner of the Sunderland goal. Instead of riding the wave of the pretty goal and running out winners though, Manchester United ended up right back behind. Kenwyne Jones put the visitors back ahead only minutes later and Man U were left to once again search for the tying goal.
Sunderland looked as if they would get out of Old Trafford with the three points until only 5 minutes from time Kieran Richardson was sent to the showers for his second yellow of the night. Manchester pushed even harder against the 10 man Sunderland and were rewarded in the 92nd minute. An own goal from Anton Ferdinand gave the home side some salvation as Sunderland were denied the historic victory.
